Senator Tom Neuville, a lawyer by trade, has served the people of Senate District 25 for sixteen years, being first elected to the Minnesota State Senate in 1990. He has served as a Republican Assistant Minority Leader and the ranking Republican Senator on the Crime Prevention and Budget Committee and State Government and Budget Division. An expert in civil and criminal litigation, he is the primary caucus adviser on crime-related issues.

He has worked on prison reform and has advocated for lower cost prisons and tougher sentences. Senator Neuville authored “zero tolerance” legislation for juveniles operating motor vehicles while intoxicated, and is a past recipient of the GLADD award (Government Leaders Against Drunk Driving). On education issues, Senator Neuville was the author of the first School Choice bill and the EdVest and College IRA bills. Senator Neuville is also one of the Senate’s leading pro-life advocates.

During his free time, Senator Neuville enjoys several athletic activities. He plays golf to an 11 handicap, football and basketball. An avid reader, Senator Neuville usually has three books going at once.

Senator Neuville was asked to be Joanne Benson’s running mate as she campaigned for the 1998 Republican gubernatorial nomination. He considers his brief run an honor and unique opportunity.

Senator Neuville was a finalist for the District Court judgeship for the Third Judicial District.
