2007 has turned out to be a pretty cold year. It seems whenever we have a “hot day” someone claims that is proof of global warming. So why isn’t cold or frigid temperatures evidence that global warming is not at a “tipping point” ?
Here is an interesting article from the Washington Times entitled, “Year of Global Cooling” which provides some evidence that earth may be getting colder on a global basis. As usual, I invite comment. But, the author clearly has his own belief in the soundness of global warming theory. The final sentance of the article is:
“Global warming has long since passed from scientific hypothesis to the realm of pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo.”

Just curious Tom . . .
When you are a judge, will you decide cases based on the evidence or op ed pieces.
Bob, scientific evidence will always prevail over speculation or opinion which lacks foundation. Here is a new link (to an article) citing many scientists who have a differing view of global warming than the IPCC.

The final sentence of the article is:
“Global warming has long since passed from scientific hypothesis to the realm of pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo.”
And, if I may add, just another political fear tactic, they should call globalphobic to go along with the other myth of homophobic. I don’t know anyone afraid of homosexuals. Seems the Dems are into calling everyone fearfull that disagrees with their point of view. Now I must be demophobic.
This is the problem when you listen to opinion pieces instead of science and peer-reviewed literature: You get a totally backwards perspective.
2007 is not a cold year, in any stretch of the imagination. For every cold event that he cherry-picks for specific parts of globe, I’m sure it would be possible to find five hot ones. The problem, of course, is that weather in a specific locale is irrelevant to determining global climate.
Contrary to his opinion, 2007 is on its way to be the fourth hottest year since records began. I’m hard-pressed to consider that a “global cooling.”
Moreover, the warming observed since the industrial revolution is the fastest change in climate than any other climate change. That’s hardly “natural variation.”
Dear Mr. Neuville,
Global warming is not based on the particular temperatures on any single day or place, but rather on the overall climate (meaning long term weather patterns) of the entire world. Thus a few hot or cold days in one place, be it St. Paul, MN, the whole state or even the entire country, are just small pieces to a vast global climate picture.
In regards to the opinion piece you linked, cooling can be a result of the climatic changes caused by warming. For example, warmer weather can lead to more water evaporation, which could be expressed later on in a different part of the world, such as in Buenos Aires as the article mentions. In addition, cooling in one area could be offset by many warming areas to get a net global condition of warming.
